Common questions
How do I add a task?
Tap the add button, give the task a title, and pick a time of day. Optionally set a duration (for timed tasks), break it into steps, and set a repeat rule — daily, weekdays, weekends, weekly, or certain days. The task appears on your timeline at that time.
How do subtasks work?
Any task can be broken into steps, and a step can have steps of its own. Tick them off one at a time and the task completes itself once the last one is done — you never have to mark the parent separately. On a repeating task the checklist is per‑occurrence, so today’s progress doesn’t carry over: a morning routine starts clean each morning.
Can I repeat a task on specific weekdays?
Yes. Set the repeat rule to Certain days and pick exactly which weekdays the task lands on — Monday, Wednesday and Friday, say, or just Sunday. The other rules (daily, weekdays, weekends, weekly) are still there when they fit better.
How do habits and streaks work?
Give a task a repeat rule — daily, weekdays, weekends, weekly, or certain days — and it becomes a habit. Each day you complete it, your streak grows; miss a day and it resets. The daily progress ring shows how much of today you’ve completed at a glance.
How do reminders work?
Allow notifications when Dotty asks, and the app schedules a local reminder at each task’s scheduled time, repeating according to the task’s repeat rule. If you don’t want reminders, simply decline the notifications permission.
How do I use the widget and Live Activities?
Add the Dotty widget to your Home Screen to see and check off tasks without opening the app. For a task with a duration, starting it shows a Live Activity countdown on your Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island.
How does iCloud sync work?
Sync is on by default and included free. Your tasks stay in sync across iPhone, iPad, and Mac through your own private iCloud — just sign into the same iCloud account on each device. Your data stays in your private iCloud account — the developer has no access to it.
Does Dotty cost anything?
No. Dotty is completely free and every feature is included — unlimited tasks, iCloud sync, Live Activities & Dynamic Island, the full color and icon palette, and the Glass appearance. There are no ads and no subscription.
What are the tips in the Support screen?
Tapping the heart in the toolbar opens Support Dotty, an optional tip jar. Tips are one‑time, entirely voluntary, and unlock nothing — every feature is already yours. They simply help fund continued development. Because tips aren’t a purchase of anything, there is nothing to restore.
Where is my data stored?
Everything is stored on your device, and — if you enable iCloud sync — in your own private iCloud. Dotty uses no developer accounts, no analytics, and no tracking. See the Privacy Policy for details.
